Specialising in therapy with parents and children.

I'm Kayleigh Rainbird. I'm based in The Practice Rooms in Reading.

Helping parents and children to find strength to fly.

I am a therapist who uses a range of different therapeutic interventions to help children or to help parents and children together. I have experience of working within a wide a range of needs. To name a few- From children who need help with friendships, with low-mood, who are finding it hard to adjust to having a neurological diagnosis, who are finding it hard to accept parent separation to adopted children who need help understanding their life story. I also help parents who are going through a tough time with the relationship with their child or who want to be able to help their child's mental health at home instead of in the therapy office.  I offer play therapy, parent-child attachment play and life story therapy. I use a holistic approach to working with both parents and children. I enjoy building one to one relationships with parents and children, offering them time and space to grow using creative therapeutic techniques.

I am trained with Play Therapy UK. I trained with Clear Sky charity in Parent-Child Attachment Play. I am a provider for Adopt South, PACT and Compass Fostering.

See the website www.thepracticerooms.co.uk to find out more about where I am based.

The services I offer

Rainbird Parent-Child Therapy

Helping parents and children find strength to fly.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy can help children to find their voice, feel heard and process their emotions and experiences. These sessions involve myself and the child. I use a non-directive approach which is always child-led. This gives the child power over their therapeutic process. Play is a child's natural language and also produces feel good hormones and repairs neural pathways. For more information please contact me.

Parent-Child Attachment Play

PCAP is a parent coaching intervention. It is about exploring the parent-child relationship and giving the parent skills to connect with their child at a deeper level. It involves sessions with the parent and myself then sessions at home between the parent and the child. When the parent has the sessions at home they come back to me to review. For more information please contact me.

  • ‘We are really pleased with how ‘child’s name’ is doing. She is a completely different girl at school and has even begun to achieve. Her reading is getting better and so is her spelling! Its stayed at the same level for so long. I think she be one of the only children achieving while in lockdown!’ Mum of a girl aged 7- anxiety and school phobia
  • 'Child’s name’ went to bed no problem and I sat on the sofa in the kitchen. You. Are. MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!! Mum of boy aged 5- Separation anxiety and trauma
  • 'I began play therapy wondering how this theory and practice could support  my relationship with my daughter; ‘I already spend lots of time with her!’  I have finished the therapist led sessions with a feeling of enlightenment! The things that she was needing from me (that I had no idea were there) are now no longer there. We are more in sync and attuned than ever before. I LOVE these protected times with her and will continue them long into the future. Not only that, but as an education professional I have started to bring some of the theories into my work practise. Who would have thought that dedicated, therapeutic play with my child would have such a dramatic effect on all of our lives. Thank you Kayleigh!'  PCAP Sessions with a parent of adopted girl aged 11- emotional regulation, trauma and separation anxiety.
  • 'Thank you so much for your help over the last few months. ‘Child’s name’ has loved her sessions with you. In the summer, we saw a huge improvement in her managing her emotions-particularly anxiety more effectively and she just seemed much happier. We have really valued the input you have given ‘child’s name’.  Mum of girl aged 8- anxiety and friendship problems
