Parent-Child Attachment Play (PCAP)

Parents are the expert on their child.

With so many emotions involved, the parent-child relationship can be rocky at times. Sometimes parents need help and that's ok. I trained as a PCAP practitioner with Clear Sky charity and this course opened my eyes to the power of working one on one with a parent to improve their child's mental health. This intervention helps when there are behavioural challenges, separation anxiety or when there has been a parent separation or a loss in the child's life.

PCAP is about me sharing 3 therapeutic skills with the parent, these are- child-led play, head, heart and hands approach and containment. I do this in face to face, one to one sessions with the parent. The parent then has special time at home with their child which is a protected time that is just for their child and themselves playing together and using the therapeutic skills. After each home session the parent has with their child they have a session with me to talk about how that special time went. It is a step by step guidance to reconnecting with your child or strengthening the connection you already have with your child.
